How to do Sideways fall or Yoko Ukemi

Teaching a student how to properly fall and not get hurt is really important, unfortunately, is not in the curriculum in many Martial Arts schools. But sooner or later someone will fall and get hurt… what do we do?

How to practice yoko ukemi (side break fall), starting from a seated position and working up to a standing position.

This is how I was taught to do the Yoko Ukemi and how it seems safer to me.

This last video represents a non-convincing form to fall because his arms are on the side and not protecting vital parts like the face and middle section. His legs remain straight and if you are on the ground you can get kicked in the groin.
