Choosing your Boxing Gloves
The choice of your boxing gloves must meet criteria such as your weight and your level of practice.
What size to choose?
The size of the boxing gloves is expressed in OZ (abbreviation of Onza a British unit of measure, commonly used around the world for boxing gloves).
The Oz represents the weight of the glove (and therefore its degree of protection) adapted to the weight of the boxer.
Glove weight versus Your weight
- 6 Oz: <45 kg – 99.20 lbs
- 8 Oz: 45 to 65 kg – 99 to 143 lbs
- 10 Oz: 65 to 78 kg – 143 to 171 lbs
- 12 Oz: 78 to 90 kg – 171 to 198 lbs
- 14 Oz:> 90kg – 198 lbs
- 16 Oz:> 90 kg for even more important protection.
What kind of gloves should you choose according to your level of practice?
A beginner boxer will choose gloves that offer comfort and good ventilation
A regular boxer will opt for gloves with good wear resistance
A competition boxer will choose leather gloves for their excellent strength and protection qualities
Tips: use boxing hand wraps (or gloves without fingers) to absorb perspiration from your hands and prolong the life of your gloves.
